10 keys to build up your self confidence

1. Act as if success were the only possible outcome

What would you do if you knew you would not fail?

All actions have to begin with thoughts. Successful companies begin with the thought that there can be only one final result, success.

When you have told yourself that the final result will be success instead of failure, you produce the energy to do anything and come up with a successful conclusion. One mistake that I have made is saying “I can’t fail.” This is dangerous because that statement focuses on failure, not success. Have you ever heard anyone say “what you focus on expands.”? Focus on success, not failure.

If you visualize failure instead of success, you simply won’t have enough stamina to carry you through the basic jobs necessary to achieve any goal. So before you start anything, visualize yourself as successful in the long run.

2. Don’t compare your weaknesses with others’ strong points

Anyone with low self-esteem and little self confidence is likely to dwell on their weak points, and other people’s strong ones. Reverse your natural inclinations. If you have to compare yourself to someone else, make the comparison in your own favor.

Figure out how to use your strong points. Here is how you should think about yourself: “I am better than most people at research” or whatever your strong point is. Once you have decided what your strong points are, it’s then up to you to use them and develop them. If you can’t seem to figure out your strong points, take the Kolbe test. It helped me gain insight to my natural inclinations and abilities and solidified my desire to become a copywriter.

3. Write down the qualities you wish to have, and keep a record of your success in attaining them.

If you want to be a competitive swimmer, you would time all of your laps so you can see how you are improving over time. Do the same with your personal and professional life. If you have a goal and you don’t write it down, it’s really just a wish.

4. Keep a record of your time.

Dont worry, there’s an app for that.

5. Compete against your own records, instead of other people’s

Actually, your main job is to improve yourself, whether in selling or anything else. The strongest person in the world may be able to do 1,000 push ups, but if you started out doing 5 and a few weeks later you can do 30 without breaking a sweat, that’s something to be happy about.

If you want to be blogger but it takes you forever to hammer out a blog post, start keeping a record of the time it takes. Try to shave 5 or 10 minutes off each time you create a new post until you get it down to time you can be happy with. My goal is 45 minutes or less per post.

6. Compete with a specific objective in view

For any body to succeed, it has to be planned. What is it that you want to be successful in? I want to be a successful copywriter. In order to do that, I need to work my way through the AWAI course, while simultaneously working on my blog and learning wordpress, email marketing, and social media. I also need to set goals and objectives for profits, sales progress, and personal development.

7. Keep on studying and learning

It is not enough to have the proper attitude toward competition. You also have to have the proper attitude toward
yourself. This is hard to achieve unless you know that you are constantly growing from within.

Take a course in a subject that interests you most. Excellent courses in public speaking, literature, economics, woodworking, and various crafts are provided in most cities at a reasonable fee. If you live in the boondocks, you can find classes for many subjects online. Here’s one for sewing. This site has classes on computer related topics.

8. Take up a social activity

Psychologists have discovered that if you learn bridge, ping-pong, dancing, or anything else you can use socially, you will get practice in getting along with other people. The best adjusted men and women, they claim, are those who have learned some social game or skill. Don’t regard these recreations as a waste of time. Every time you deal with others, you learn something of value in the development of your own personality.

9. Join a social club

World of Warcraft anyone?

We’re all essentially social human beings; even the most introverted man must get along with others. Fortunately, there are groups and clubs for every taste and requirement. Whether its Food and Fashion or Dungeons and Dragons there is a place for everyone, online and offline.

Once you’ve joined an organization, don’t sit back and let other people do all the work. Individuals who like titles and honors are very common. Those who want to do honest, hard work aren’t so common. Be one of the workers! If possible, get on a committee. This can give you practice in getting along with other personality types and build your network of people who can become clients or refer clients to you.

10. Tackle big jobs, a step at a time
The Chinese have an ancient proverb, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” When you think about a big job, it is sometimes rather frightening, unless you break it down into its component elements, then tackle them one at a time.  Taking care of small tasks will help give you the self confidence you need to move forward.

Starting small doesn’t keep you from ending big. In fact, it’s often the best way to shoot for the top.
